FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Globe Studio — the standalone globe animation software for macOS.

What is Globe Studio?

Globe Studio is a standalone desktop application for creating cinematic animated globe visualizations. It lets you add locations via a storyboard, customize flight arcs, highlight countries, control camera movements, and export professional-quality globe animation videos — all without any 3D or After Effects experience.

Do I need 3D experience to use Globe Studio?

No. Globe Studio is designed for creators who want professional globe animations without learning complex 3D software like Blender or Cinema 4D. You simply add locations, customize the visual style, and export.

What video formats can Globe Studio export?

Globe Studio exports H.264 (MP4), H.265 (HEVC), and VP9 (WebM) video files, as well as PNG image sequences for compositing in other tools. Pro users can export at resolutions up to 4K.

Is Globe Studio free?

Globe Studio offers a free tier with full editor access, storyboard, all styling options, and 720p export with a watermark. The Pro License costs $19.99 as a one-time purchase — no subscription — and unlocks watermark-free export, up to 4K resolution, PNG sequences, and all codecs at full quality.

What operating systems does Globe Studio support?

Globe Studio is currently available for macOS. Windows support is planned based on user demand.

How does Globe Studio compare to Google Earth Studio?

Google Earth Studio uses real satellite imagery and is great for terrain flyovers. Globe Studio creates stylized, cinematic globe animations with customizable shaders, country highlighting, animated flight arcs, anamorphic lens effects, and full creative control. They serve different purposes: realism vs. cinematic artistry.

How does Globe Studio compare to After Effects globe templates?

After Effects globe templates require an Adobe subscription and expertise. They are rigid — changing flight paths or adding stops often breaks the project. Globe Studio is purpose-built: add locations via storyboard, drag to reorder, customize everything, and export. No After Effects required.

How does Globe Studio compare to Blender or Cinema 4D?

Blender and Cinema 4D are powerful general-purpose 3D tools, but creating a globe animation requires weeks of learning and hours of manual setup (modeling, texturing, camera paths, flight arcs). Globe Studio delivers broadcast-quality globe animations in minutes with built-in NASA textures, atmospheric shaders, and storyboard editing.

Can I use Globe Studio for commercial projects?

Yes. Globe Studio output can be used in any commercial project including YouTube videos, news broadcasts, corporate presentations, travel vlogs, and social media content. The Pro license removes the watermark.

Can I import locations in bulk?

Yes. Globe Studio supports bulk import from CSV files or pasting a list of locations. It auto-detects whether entries are countries, cities, or coordinates.

What textures does Globe Studio use?

Globe Studio includes real NASA Blue Marble earth textures at up to 16K resolution. You can switch between day and night textures, and customize lighting with dynamic sun position control.

How fast is rendering in Globe Studio?

Globe Studio uses an FFmpeg pipe for encoding, which is significantly faster than frame-by-frame rendering. A typical 30-second animation at 1080p renders in under a minute on modern hardware.

Is there a subscription?

No. Globe Studio's Pro license is a one-time payment of $19.99 that includes all v1.x updates. There are no monthly or yearly fees.

What is the difference between the Free and Pro versions?

The Free version includes the full editor, storyboard, all styling options, and unlimited projects. It exports at 720p with a watermark. Pro ($19.99 one-time) removes the watermark, unlocks up to 4K resolution, PNG sequence export, and all codecs at full quality.
